Joining our 2-days trip you will ascend two famous Kamchatka volcanoes – Gorely & Mutnovsky. After first ascending you will spend a night in our comfortable Base Camp. The camp is equipped with big dining tent with capacity up to 40 persons, which is warmed by the heat-generator in cold rainy days. For guests’ accommodation we have 3-persons tents for twin use. If you are not tired after ascending it is possible to trek down from the camp to the waterfall at Spokoinyi Brook and even further to the hot springs at Rodnikovaya.
Gorely volcano presents a volcanic ridge that consists of several merged cones. The summit of the range reaches the absolute height of 1892 m and has a series of craters. Besides the top craters, there are six more side craters on the slopes. The latest eruption of Gorely took place in 1986 and volcanologists think that it erupts every 19 years. In one of the volcano’s carters there is an acid lake that presents magnificent view. It lies at 200 meters depth in the crater and exudes dangerous vapors rising to the crater’s edge. The ascending Gorely is not difficult. It occupies about 3 hours and does not demand any special conditions or equipment. If the weather is good nice views open from the top of Gorely Volcano: mountain peaks, shores of Pacific Ocean and numerous canyons surrounding the area.
The Mutnovsky volcano’s nest of merged craters is perhaps the most beautiful phenomenon of Kamchatka. The view from its top is magnificent: steep walls surround the vast and deep crater cavity with glittering glaciers split by cracks and torches of fumaroles oscillating far below and drawing a translucent veil over the northern crater. Also visible is the southern crater under its armor of ice and above all this there is a column of vapor rising from the craggy rim of the active Funnel crater. Even between eruptions the volcano produces lots of energy in the form of fumarole’s gases and numerous thermal springs. It is one of the largest geothermal deposits in the world. In the 20th century there were ten explosive volcanic eruptions. The recent one took place in 2000.
